How to use Image to Base64

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 8 MB.
  2. Select a complete data URL or just the Base64 characters.
  3. Copy the generated text or download it as a text file.

A closer look

Base64 represents the bytes of an image using text characters. A data URL adds the image type and a prefix so the string can be used in compatible documents or code. It does not improve quality or encrypt the image. Base64 is roughly one third larger than the original binary data, so embedding many large pictures can make documents or web pages slow.

A practical example

Convert a small PNG icon into a data URL for a test HTML document. The encoded text is larger than the original bytes, so a normal file is usually better for large images.

A useful tip

Choose Data URL when your destination asks for a value beginning with data:image/. Choose Base64 only when it specifically asks for raw Base64.

Good questions. Simple answers.
